Likely out of respect to Duanne.

It's interesting listening to that partial of the 10/21/72 Nashville show. The mix is pretty screwed up, but it gives a real clear picture of Phil's "lead-style" bass playing...

Exactly!! From about the 8-minute mark in Truckin' through TOO, Phil's kinda leading the charge.

I probably worded my question wrong---I wasn't trying to be flippant or disrespectful to Duane. Thinking on it some more, ABB was still relatively new, GD was not. Garcia had become the iconic [non-]leader of the Dead; was Duane's role as prominent? Just curious if any of the older heads remember any of the talk from that time.
